Preperation Plant Strucual Repair
As the coal industry ages, the facilities necessary to produce the finished product ages too. Years of neglect inevitably leads to structural deterioration and eventual failure.
In 1997 one such plant had MSHA citations written due to structural deterioration. RT Welding & Fabrication, Inc. was called to correct the problem by repairing or replacing columns, floor support beams and equipment support beams.
The pictures you see were taken for the purpose of showing the plant owner/operator the condition of his plant. Many of these pictures were taken in the basement of the old part of the plant that had been built decades earlier and was never seen for inspection. The few new beams seen are beams we had already replaced prior to the pictures.
We earned the trust and respect of this particular federal mine inspector by showing up everyday and doing what we said we would do. We accomplished much. This abled us to aquire several extensions from the inspector, giving us time to finish the job and at the same the time saving the plant from closure. The plant didn’t loose a single production shift. These repairs took over 9 months to complete. As we inched our way towards bringing the plant back into compliance, the plant managment's confidence in us continued to grow. We work regularly at this plant even after ownership changed hands and until the plant was closed in 2015. This closure was completely due to the down turn in the coal markets.
